Bringing Digital Innovation to an Overlooked Condition

TrueSilence Therapeutics USA, a healthtech startup supported by the University of Auckland, is tackling one of the world’s most widespread but underserved medical conditions: tinnitus. Affecting nearly 750 million people globally, tinnitus often leaves patients with limited treatment options and inconsistent access to care. TrueSilence’s mission is to use advanced technology to make research-driven therapies accessible and scalable, bridging the gap between clinical innovation and patient experience.

To achieve this, TrueSilence envisioned UpSilent, a groundbreaking platform designed to remotely diagnose, monitor, and treat tinnitus. More than just a mobile application, the product needed to combine patented sound therapy protocols, 3D sound generation, and gamified treatment modules within a secure digital ecosystem. We partnered with TrueSilence to transform this vision into a clinically robust, user-friendly platform capable of meeting both regulatory standards and patient needs worldwide.

From Research Prototypes to Real-World Solutions

The challenge lay in taking sophisticated research prototypes and building a scalable digital product that could withstand clinical scrutiny while remaining intuitive for patients. Delivering 3D sound therapy required highly precise auditory engineering to replicate real-world sound environments on mobile devices. At the same time, the product had to be built with healthcare-grade compliance, meeting HIPAA and HISO standards from day one to ensure patient data privacy and secure clinical use.

FDA approval was a critical milestone on the roadmap, meaning the product architecture had to meet stringent medical software regulations while still offering flexibility for iterative development and future scalability. This demanded a deep integration of clinical research, engineering expertise, and compliance-driven design.

Engineering UpSilent for Global Patients

We worked side by side with researchers to co-develop the 3D sound engine, ensuring sound accuracy was preserved across devices and environments. This precision was vital to the therapy’s clinical integrity and to building trust with healthcare professionals.

In parallel, we focused on designing patient-centered applications that made treatment both accessible and engaging. Gamified therapy modules were integrated into the mobile apps to increase adherence, while progress tracking tools gave patients greater control over their journey. By embedding clinical rigor into the user experience, we ensured the platform could drive both medical outcomes and patient engagement.

Compliance was treated as a design principle rather than an afterthought. From encrypted data storage to controlled access protocols, every workflow was aligned with HIPAA and HISO requirements, paving the way toward FDA approval. To support large-scale adoption, we built a cloud-native infrastructure capable of managing real-time treatment data and providing dashboards for healthcare professionals to adapt therapy plans remotely.

Pioneering a Digital Pathway for Tinnitus Care

The launch of UpSilent has opened a new chapter in tinnitus treatment by combining patented therapy protocols with digital accessibility. For patients, the ability to receive therapy from home, supported by progress tracking and gamified modules, offers a sense of empowerment and consistency that traditional care has struggled to provide.

For researchers and healthcare providers, the co-development of the 3D sound engine represents a leap forward in digital therapy innovation, offering new opportunities for clinical validation and expanding the frontiers of auditory research. With its compliance-ready design, the platform has already cleared the path for FDA approval and international rollout.

Most importantly, UpSilent positions TrueSilence as a pioneer in remote tinnitus management, offering the potential to improve the quality of life for millions worldwide. By combining clinical science with digital engineering, we created a platform that not only addresses today’s treatment gaps but also sets the stage for the future of remote-first healthcare delivery.
