Bunamo, a Europe-based startup founded by Dr. Torben Gräber and Phill Kopp, set out to create more than just another coffee app. Their vision was to bring together coffee lovers, home baristas, and professional roasters in one digital space, a platform where recipes could be shared, brands discovered, and connections forged across borders.
To bring this vision to life, they partnered with us to design and engineer a mobile-first social platform that captured the warmth and culture of coffee while ensuring the performance and scalability needed to support community growth across Europe and beyond.
The challenge was to transform a deeply personal, sensory passion, coffee, into a digital community experience. The platform had to serve both casual drinkers looking for inspiration and professional roasters showcasing their craft. It needed to support diverse content types, from espresso shots and brewing recipes to brand profiles and user reviews, while remaining easy to navigate.
At the same time, scalability was key. The app had to be built cloud-ready so it could grow with Bunamo’s expanding user base. Finally, the experience had to feel authentic, with a design that resonated with the richness, warmth, and artistry that defines coffee.
We began by working closely with Bunamo’s founders, translating their vision into a user-centered design process. The UI/UX was crafted to feel warm, intuitive, and community-driven, with simple navigation for discovering recipes, roasters, and brewing methods. Every feature, from posting an espresso shot to exploring a new brand, was designed to feel natural and engaging.
On the engineering side, we built a scalable mobile architecture capable of handling content-rich interactions. Filtering systems were implemented to make recipe and brand discovery seamless, ensuring users could explore the platform without friction. For visual identity, we created an interface inspired by the culture of coffee, using rich tones, clean layouts, and a style that balances modern design with artisanal warmth.
Finally, we aligned every engineering decision with Bunamo’s long-term vision, ensuring the app’s backend and cloud infrastructure could scale as the community grows across Europe.
