Social Motion Inc, a Canadian startup, set out to bridge fitness, transportation, and civic innovation. Their mission was simple but ambitious: to encourage healthier living while generating data that could help shape smarter cities.
Fcode Labs partnered with Social Motion to bring this vision to life through a mobile-first platform designed to make movement meaningful. Launched in 2019, the Social Motion app connects seamlessly with Apple HealthKit, Google Fit, and Fitbit, syncing users’ activity data to power both personal motivation and urban insight.
The app transforms everyday movement into measurable social impact, rewarding users for being active while feeding anonymized data to city planners for improving recreation and mobility infrastructure.

The challenge extended far beyond creating another fitness tracker. Social Motion needed a system that would combine behavioral science, gamification, and real-time analytics in a way that motivated consistent activity while maintaining simplicity and privacy.
Our task was to design a mobile experience that inspired long-term engagement, supported wearable integration across multiple ecosystems, and transformed movement data into insights that served both individuals and the public good.
The platform had to be scalable, inclusive, and compliant with international data standards, ensuring trust while encouraging participation.

We began with deep product discovery, exploring how social incentives and behavioral design could drive healthier habits. The result was an experience that rewards movement through achievements, challenges, and community-driven motivation.
Our engineers built native applications integrated with Apple HealthKit, Google Fit, and Fitbit, ensuring accurate data syncing across devices and demographics. The backend architecture was designed on a cloud-based infrastructure, optimized for speed, scalability, and real-time processing of user data.
Quality assurance was embedded throughout development. We implemented continuous testing to ensure seamless operation across devices and operating systems, while privacy-by-design principles safeguarded all personal fitness data.
By combining technical precision with empathy-driven design, we delivered a platform where wellness, technology, and civic innovation coexist in harmony.
